How often should I service my HVAC system?

New unit installs come with a 10 year manufacturers warranty. LCAS provides 1 year labor warranty with the option of adding 2-10 year coverage.
There are several factors that determine what kind of system is right for your home. The EPA requires a minimum of 14 SEER. LCAS offers 14-26 SEER.
We strongly encourage a second opinion when told that you need a new unit for your home. Life expectancy in the Lowcountry is 10-15 years, but it is not uncommon to see upwards of 20 years.
There are several factors that determine how often you should check your filters, i.e. what season we are in. LCAS recommends checking monthly and changing as needed.
LCAS does not recommend washable filters or cleaning a disposable filter. Always install a new filter as needed.
LCAS recommends that you check your filters monthly and replace as needed when seeing large amounts of dust and debris collecting on it.
LCAS recommends your indoor humidity level to be at 45%-55%. Humidity is relative; the lower the humidity level the cooler your home will feel.
If the humidity in your home is above 60% for an extended period of time, LCAS recommends a dehumidifier be installed to your home. High humidity levels can have adverse effects on the air quality inside your home.
Humidity is caused by moisture in the air and excess moisture in homes can come from many sources; people, pets, cooking, washing, plants, and outdoor air coming inside. Excess moisture can create unhealthy and uncomfortable living conditions as stated by the American Lung Association, EPA, and the American Medical Association. If you notice discoloration around the registers, biological growth, musty odors, condensation around windows and/or supply registers, your air quality may be suffering.
The Lowcountry does not experience cold enough weather on a typical basis to require a humidifier in residential properties.
LCAS will gladly assess the need for duct cleaning upon request.
LCAS can perform a heat load calculation on your house to determine the exact size needed if the unit size is in question.
Heat pumps are popular in the south, but gas warms to the core.
LCAS prefers heat pumps due to the high cost of electric rates. Gas is currently a very affordable source of energy and recommend when available.
